Mathias Arroyo-Bégin
Video/filmmaker, climber and traveler
Mathias is a filmmaker and photo director with several audio-visual creations to its name. He is passionate about climbing and traveling.
Climbing is a family affair in the Arroyo-Bégin family, as Mathias' Quebec grandparents adopted vertical walls long before he was born. In fact, his parents met while climbing somewhere near Val David. "It's funny because when I was young they introduced me to climbing and I didn't like it at all," he says with a laugh. because it was too quiet (!!) for the teenager he was. "I liked the more adventurous stuff. I liked to have an adrenaline rush, so I was into more extreme sports, he says. Then I definitely matured and realized that it wasn't worth the risk. I like climbing because I can push myself without fear of injury."
In his twenties, he started climbing indoors at a climbing gym near his home. At some point, he got the big thrill that pushed him to try the activity outside and ask his father for more advice. As soon as he finished his university studies in cinema, he took off with his backpack and decided to travel to do some rock climbing. "I spent three months climbing in Mexico, Argentina and Chile, mainly to see family because I'm half Chilean," he recalls, as he loved discovering territories he would probably never have discovered without climbing. Even today, his life gravitates towards climbing. He explores the vertical potential in his hometown and elsewhere in America.
"For me, climbing is a state of well being, it's a way to express myself, discover, connect with communities and share strong friendships. I feel like climbing gets its beauty from its improbability; the only reason to put ourselves in these exposure positions is our willingness."

In his daily life, Mathias combines his work as a video/filmmaker with his passions for music, travel and climbing. He brings our Chlorophylle clothes from one province or continent to another.
